In 1983, Casio launched the first shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch collection.This product, Casio G SHOCK watches shattered the notion that a watch is a fragile piece of time peice that needs to be handled with care.
The result of Casio innovative engineering, they created the world’s toughest watch.
Two engineers wanted to create the ultimate watch, assembled a rogue team of engineers and named their mission, "Project Tough."
Through perseverance and unusual testing methods, such as throwing prototypes out the second floor bathroom window to the asphalt below, they developed the first G-Shock in early 1980s.
This watch was able to withstand their then benchmark of "Triple Ten" criteria, namely 10 years of usage, 10 atmospheres (water resistance) and a 10m fall (shock resistance).
Using a triple-protection design for the parts, module, and case, the G-SHOCK watches offered a radical new type of watch that was unaffected by strong impacts or shaking.
This unique shock absorbing structure supports the module (inner brains) as if it were floating in air.
Its practicality was immediately recognized, and its unique look, which embodied its functionality, became very popular, resulting in huge sales in the early 1990s.
The G-SHOCK through out the years adopted various new sensors, solar-powered radio-controlled technology, and new materials for even better durability.
After more than two decades later, G-Shock watches have exceeded the designers’ original benchmark and pushed the limits of what this watch can endured.
